DEPARTMENT OF CONTINUOUS EDUCATION TRAINING & RESEARCH


CETD & R strongly believes that optimum staff development and improved quality healthcare providers competence in patient care and management can only be achieved through continuous education and training.

I. Brief History:

The Department of Continuous Education Training & Research, formerly the Continuous Medical Education.

II. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Develops priority educational/professional programs in line with the Ministry of Health thrusts.
  2. Supervises / assists departmental staff development programs.
  3. Builds up and improves the hospital staff research ability on patient care management.
  4. Implements research policies and directs hospital programs consistent with local, national and international health care priorities.
  5. Strengthens linkages with other government and non-government health agencies for more effective and efficient implementation of health and health-related programs or activities.
  6. Involves and / or assists hospital staff in knowledge – sharing through scientific writing, symposiums, workshops and other related activities / projects.
  7. Evaluates and recommends hospital staff for further study or for or research grants.

III. MISSION:

The CETD & R is committed to the improvement / reinforcement of hospital staff who possesses:

  2. Excellence and professional competence
  3. Quality patient care management through continuous education, training, and research
  4. Consciousness for one’s health, well-being, and for a safe working environment

IV.FACILITIES:

1. Hospital educational and professional activities
CETD & R encourages and maintains educational and professional activities of the hospital staff and exchanges programs with other government and non-government health and allied agencies within and outside Medina as under:
    1. Weekly medical lectures ( local and invited lecturers )
    2. Departmental clubs
    3. Case / Group Presentations
    4. Mortality & Morbidity Discussion
    5. Supervision and training of medical and nursing students.
 

2. Health Outreach & Business Affairs

    HOBA is a health outreach program of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center with Regional Satellite Centers in the country and King Fahad Hospital - Medina is the HOBA Center in Medina Region. It has the following services thru CETD & R:

i) Telemedicine which is a computerized venue for:
Teleradiology where all referrals for radiographic film interpretations / consultations with KFSH & RC – Riyadh are made ( MRI, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Routine X-rays, and related films )
      • Video Conferences: These are discussions of referred patients or cases to KFSH & RC with concerned department staff. These are scheduled conferences.
 

ii) Training of hospital staff to KFSH & RC according to field of specialty ( Medicine, Surgery, Nursing, Radiology, Laboratory, etc. ). Qualified hospital staff is sent to KFSH & RC for special training for a period of time according to his / her needs and the needs of the concerned department.

iii) Clinical Visits: Consultants from KFSH & RC are scheduled on a clinical visit to KFH _ Medina based on the needs of each department ( 29 clinic visits annually ).
iv) Smart Clinic: Discussions of histophatology specimens with the concerned departments.

v) Coordinated symposia with KFSH & RC ( 2 – 3 symposia / year )

3.Scientific Journal:

The Medina Medical Journal is a quarterly publication of CETD & R. It includes articles, reviews, case reports and interesting films from Imaging Departments.

4.Research activities:

Each department is expected to have research
output annually either at a departmental or individual level.

5. Library:

The hospital library is equipped with current issues of
professional journals and books. New books / references are
acquired annually according to the needs of the department.

6.Symposia and conferences:

Local, regional, national & international
symposium / conferences are held according to the MOH thrust
programs ( International Health Week, International Diabetes Day,
International Nurses Week, etc ).
