The Department of Cardiology
is the Regional Cardiac Center in Madinah Al Munawarah.
It serves cardiac and cardiac related patients.
Cardiology Department is equipped with high-tech hemodynamic
monitoring and life-saving gadgets aside from the following
services it offers:
Services
/ Facilities:
- Non-invasive Diagnostic
procedures
- Echocardiography:
This is to evaluate the internal structures of
the heart and heart wall motion. Stress
Test Treadmill Exercises:
- Exercise Stress
test provides information on myocardial response
to increased oxygen requirements and determines
the adequacy of coronary blood flow, and to detect
presence of silent or hidden ischemia or arrhythmias.
- 24 hour
ECG monitoring [ Holter monitor is a portable
device attached to the patient that records the
hearts electrical activity and produces
ECG over 24 hours.] to diagnose cardiac arrhythmias
or ischemia.]
- Transesophageal
Echo is the introduction of an ultrasonic probe
mounted to flexible gastro scope or endoscopes
into the heart through the esophagus. This is
to assess / detect prosthetic valve dysfunction,
atrial thrombus and other intracardiac masses
and to detect patients with suspected infective
endocarditis, aorta dissection and vegetation,
atrial seeptal defect.
- Dobutamine Echo
- Routine ECG is
a recording of cardiac electrical activity to
diagnose specific cardiac conditions and to aid
in the evaluation and management of general medical
conditions ex. Electrolyte imbalance, etc.
- Invasive procedures:
- Cardiac catheterization
with coronary angiographys is an invasive
combined hemodynamic and angiographic procedure
consisting of the introduction of catheter into
the vascular system and heart to evaluate the
cause, severity, and prognosis of cardiac disease.
- Temporary Pacemaker
to provide an artificial electric stimulus to
the heart muscles when either the impulse initiation
or the intrinsic conduction is defective, and
serves a prophylaxis in the presence of pre-existing
heart block or before insertion of a permanent
pacemaker.
- Permanent Pacemaker
for the correction of heart block
- Pericardiocentesis:
to relieve pericardial pressure.
- CCU- consists of
8 beds, equipped with routine and invasive monitoring
facilities. Its provides critical care to the
acutely life threatening cardiac patients like
acute MI, Tachy and Brady arrhythmial, pulmonary
edema, etc. to mention a few.
- Intermediate care
unit serves as a step down for CCU patients. It
consists of 5 beds which are also equipped with
monitoring gadgets.
- Cariology ward
where stable cardiac patients are admitted.
- Anti Coagulation
Clinic
Rheumatic
heart disease control and prevention clinic in coordination
with the MOH thrust program.
